Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram are merging! Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram are merging!
Facebook Insta WhatsApp Merge | Silvertoad, Luton

Do you have accounts with Instagram, WhatsApp or Facebook? If so, you should be aware that they are merging

Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg (also owner of Instagram and WhatsApp) and his team have come up with a plan to merge the three messaging platforms together. The announcement was made earlier this week and is planned to be finished by either late 2019 or early 2020.

A plus point to this merger is that you could use WhatsApp to message an individual on Facebook, even if the other user doesn’t have that specific platform and vice versa.

There’s no official explanation regarding the reasons behind the merger, although Facebook have released a statement saying “We want to build the best messaging experience we can; and people want messaging to be fast, simple, reliable and private’.

We can obviously see the benefits of this merger and like everyone else, we’re all getting a bit fed up of far too many of the same systems which this will help tidy up.

However it’s clear that the main reason for this is to put pressure on and overcome competition from other social media and messaging platforms globally. Social media has become so popular and a massively lucrative market that everyone is continually fighting over. Mark Zuckerberg bought Instagram and WhatsApp in recent years and the original owners have long moved on, leaving Zuckerberg with 3 of the most popular social media platforms at his disposal. If he were to combine all three, he’d make a social media platform so powerful that around 2.7 BILLION people would be using it. This is estimated to be a third of the globe using these social media platforms collectively. Facebooks marketplace also competes with eBay and amazon with the amount of traffic it generates on a daily basis.

The statistics on Facebook alone average around 1.6 Billion daily users, Instagram is around 1.1 billion monthly users, and there are 60 billion daily messages sent on WhatsApp. As they say, the numbers don’t lie and these ones clearly prove the vast influence these social platforms have.
